Ibiza Tourism Guide - Ibiza East Coast

Ibiza's East coast offers visitors an array of Ibiza Holiday Resorts, all with their own distinct character and perhaps a little different than the typical resorts of Majorca. Santa Eularia for example has plenty of bars, restaurants and shops, plus a lovely promenade and sandy beach, but there's a bohemian edge here, with little art galleries scattered about, and attractively painted bar cafes. Also, they've a more Balearic Islands/Spanish flavour to them. It's tapas as opposed to Burger King which is welcome perhaps to some.

Ibiza all English resorts you seek. Head for Cala Longa for that more traditional Balearic Island resort holiday. There's a variety of Ibiza East coast locations, all with different characters from great watersports, to a little bohemian culture, to a great hippie market and superb sandy blue flag beach at Es Canar. Ibiza's east coast is one of the most popular parts of the island.

Cala Longa Ibiza Holiday

Cala Longa is situated just north of Ibiza Town/Eivissa and very popoular with British visitors. It's a more typical Balearic Islands resort, with lots of hotels, shops, bars and restaurants, and Cala Longa has a great family friendly sandy beach. Cala Longa is most certainly family holiday Ibiza style territory, with its very wide beach, ample sunbeds to hire, and it's a good bay frequented by quite a few small yachts, which won't get in your way as they moor way out to sea.

Cala Longa won't disappoint for good Ibiza holiday facilities including Ibiza golf course just nearby towards Jesus (the only one on Ibiza, if you're a real lover of golf head to Majorca!). Ibiza horseriding is on the menu, and from Cala Longa you can take a lesson, then branch out and explore the surrounding countryside on horseback. Some watersports are available on Cala Longa's beach as well. A good Ibiza family holiday spot.

Es Cana, Ibiza East Coast

Looking for Ibiza hippie markets? Then head for Es Cana with probably Ibiza's most famous hippie market, which kicks off every Wednesday between May and October only, from 10am to about 6pm. Find the Es Cana hippie market at Club Arabi, and just follow the crowds it's popular!! You'll find hundreds of stalls here flogging t-shirts, jewellery, tourist souvenirs, candles, imported pottery and tie-dye clothes, and many other bits and bats. If you're based at either San Antonio or Eivissa/Ibiza Town, catch the boat they lay on every Wednesdays to Es Cana hippie market.

Es Cana town has lots to offer as well, with it's little marina and array of fishing boats. The Ibiza beach at Es Cana is a Blue Flag one, so expect a quality sandy beach with surrounding pines. It's a great chilled spot, perfect for a quiet retreat from the clubs, but still with many Ibiza holiday amenities, and it's a good one for the Ibiza family holiday!

If you're after the old watersports Ibiza scenario, choose Cala Nova further north. You get the wind a bit up here, hence the watersports and the sea is certainly a bit more choppy! No crowds here either, just a costy sandy cove at Cala Llenya adjacent to Cala Nova. Santa Eularia beach is extremely popular as well, but has a character feel with a Spanish flavour, contrasting particularly to the all things British resort of Cala Llonga.

Santa Eularia

Santa Eulalia is the Castilian name for one of Ibiza's three big towns, known in Catalan as Santa Eularia des Riu, after the Santa Eularia river (riu) that runs through it (interestingly, this river is the only river in the Balearic Islands). None of the major clubs in Ibiza are located in Santa Eularia, and the nightlife in general is pretty quiet, all of which means that visitors to the town tend to be families and non-clubbing groups. This is not to say, however, that Santa Eularia does not get its fair share of tourists. The town is particularly well orientated towards UK and German visitors. It is a prime location for second homes and holiday flats in Ibiza.

Santa Eularia's laid beachfront esplanade is a great place to stoll and sit, afford superb views over the two sandy beaches that are separated by a surprisingly large water fountain. The esplanade is crammed with bars and cafes. For the central focal point of Santa Eularia move towards Passeig de s'Alamera, a tree-lined avenue which comes alive particularly in peak summer, when numerous hippie stalls and jewellery stalls set up here, selling sarongs, wind chimes and all kinds of accessories. It attracts many tourists.

Just to the north of the Passeig de s'Alamera is the lovely palm-studded Placa d'Espanya and the 18th town hall, well worth a look. From here it is a short walk to the Puig de Missa, a hill on which Santa Eularia's main Museum of Ethnology and charming little white church are situated. The church was built by the same Italian architect who was instrumental in the construction of Ibiza Old Town's defences.
