The weather in Majorca has to be considered alongside plans for a walking or hiking holiday. The best walking months are generally January and February, but March and April will suffice although more rain is not unusual in these Easter months. Peak summer months from July to September when the Majorca climate is extremely hot and humid make walking difficult during this period, and not recommended!
The main hazard when walking in Majorca is of course the mosquitos and ticks, so insect repellant is a must, especially when walking through dense undergrowth. Long trousers with socks pulled over the leg ends, and long sleeve shirts are highly recommended for added protection! Sunhats, good boots, walking in groups and not alone, a compass, whistle and torch, a stout stick and rations are all the usual recommendations.
A good walker base, surprisingly, in the captial Palma. The reason for this is obvious. Public transport networks out from Palma are excellent.
