Information

Majorca and Balearics hotels come in all shapes and sizes, from small and luxurious, to large leisure complex hotels in the key Balearics resorts. There's a hotel to suit all needs in the Balearics. All inclusive Majorca hotels are numerous in the key resorts such as Magaluf, the Majorca East Coast resorts of Cala Millor and Cales de Mallorca, and to the north around Alcudia and Pollenca. Perfect for families, these large Majorca resort hotels are like mini villages with all the facilities you could possibly need including entertainment, a choice of swimming pools, restaurants, bars and kids play areas and clubs. Everything from all inclusive hotels, great for families with young children, to half board and bed and breakfast option. Majorca and the Balearics offer superb choice on hotels.

Majorca Large Hotels mean large, with some of the older larger hotels built in the 1970s (most have been recently renovated) reaching upto 500 rooms or more. Large hotels are often goodnews for families, often offering all-inclusive Majorca holiday packages and numerous leisure facilities such as several swimming pools, in-house entertainment and restaurants, and lots for the kids including kids clubs!

Large Majorca Hotels in the top resorts such as Magaluf, Alcudia Bay, and the Majorca east coast resorts are popular with families, or sometimes with young groups and they tend to be like home from home holiday villages. Visitors return year after year, and families can be assured that with the numerous facilities that large Majorca hotels offer, the kids will make friends and entertain themselves - so you'll get a break to as the larger hotels often have babysitting services and more!

Majorca Hotels, Ibiza Hotels, Menorca Hotels Star Grading System - one to two Stars

Majorca hotels and Balearic Islands hotels means choice. There's certainly no shortage of hotels in Majorca and the other Balearic Islands, mostly crammed around the coast and depending on the resort or rural Majorca location all have different styles, catering for the full range of holiday maker choice from family all-inclusive Majorca hotels to rural Majorca hotels usually off the beaten track and great for couples and keen walkers.

The Balearic Islands hotel grading system follows the rest of Spain with the star grading system. It is worth noting though that prices have risen since the Euro was introduced, especially at the top star graded end. Also Value added tax, called IVA will be added onto your Majorca hotel bill, so check you're being quoted with this included. The hotel star grading system runs from 1 star basic/cheap to 5 star luxury. Some 5 star luxury gradded Balearic Island hotels also have a prefix GL which means basically mega luxurious, and top top of the range.

Most Mallorca and Balearic Island hotels are graded, but there are still a few cheaper options ungraded. The Balearics regional government is pushing now for all hotels to upgrade to a minimum of three stars now, and is not allowing any new Majorca hotels and Balearic Island hotels to operate without first achieving a 3 star grade. A few one and two star hotels are dotted about though. Each star grading denotes a particular standard, and hints at a price range although prices vary both seasonally and on location, for example Cala Millor is likely to be a cheaper Majorca holiday option than Alcudia Bay. In a one star Mallorca hotel expect the basics only with a basic room and an en-suite shower. Don't expect air conditioning, mini bars and all the rest, we're talking basic basic here. Move upto two stars and facilities increase usually to include a telephone in your room, perhaps a mini bar and also airconditioning and heating, but air conditioning isn't usually standard unless you opt for a 3 star Balearic Islands hotel or above.

Majorca Luxury Hotels 3 to 5 Stars & Pricing

Menorca hotels, Mallorca Hotels and Ibiza Hotels with the three star grading now move into the realm of fully equipped and serviced hotels. Facilities and amenities for three star hotels will include maid service, air conditioning, often cafes and bars sometimes beside pools as well, usually a swimming pool and other good family amenities usually such as kids play areas, and often in-house entertainment. Majorca and Balearic Island Hotels with four stars have all excellent amenities and facilities as with three stars, but you're not guaranteed to have a swimming pool so check this. Quality will be slightly higher than three stars, with perhaps a little more character. Balearics hotels with five stars are the luxury end with a price to match!

Majorca hotels and other Balearic Islands accommodation is usually priced according to it's grade, be it 1 to 5 stars for Majorca, Ibiza and Menorca Hotel or Aparthotel accommodation or 1 to 5 keys for Majorca self-catering apartments.

Balearic Island accommodation costs do vary dependent on resort location and of course seasonal influences, prices always go up in peak summer season months, especially June to August. As a general guide cheap Majorca accommodation with a one or two star grading or no grading will usually range from 35 to 75 euros, comfortable accommodation will loosly range from 75 to 125 euros, premium accommodation with around four stars will be around 125-200 euros, and the high luxury end with 5 star ratings will be 200 plus euros. All these prices are per night, and usually include a breakfast at the very least.

Majorca Hotels - More Grading Information

Majorca hotel guides can be a bit of a mindfield, as there's a lot of initials floating around, for example HA means Apartment-Hotels or Aparthotels. Aparthotels are graded with Keys rather than stars, and they offer self-catering options on their hotel complexes, but also restaurant services as well. Hotel Residencias however do not, and these are residential hotels with no restaurant). They are also graded using the star system of 1 to 5!

Lower-quality accommodation called "Pension", "Hostal" and "Hostal Residencia" (a hostal with no restaurant) is graded less rigorously from 1 star up to 3 star. Holiday Villages (low-rise accommodation usually in spacious gardens) are also officially classified as "Ciudad de Vacaciones" and graded from 1 star to 3 star. Aparthotels and Residencia Apartamentos, aparthotels without a restaurant, are graded on the same basis as hotels from 1 star to 5 star. Apartments are classified by "Keys" from 1 key up to 4 key and are shown as K to KKKK.

As a rule of thumb, have a checklist of your Balearic Island holiday needs, and then fit these to the choice of accommodations. If you want a guarantee of all resort hotel amenities which definitely include maid service, air conditioning and other essentials then three stars and above are you're best bet. If you're looking for cheap cheap Majorca holidays then opt for the one or two star hotel options. If you're looking for a cheaper option with a little more character though, a Hostal might be for you!

Majorca Hotel Prices

With the vast choice of Majorca Hotels and Balearics hotels, comes a huge range in price. The all-inclusive hotels and aparthotels in the key Majorca resorts are usually the cheapest, ranging from £200 to £400 per week per person, but child discounts and consideration of what's included in the package such as entertainment, food and leisure facilities mean expenses outside your standard rate will be small. Prices move up too in some of the more select resorts or locations such as central Palma, or Santa Ponca and Cala D'or.

For families the all inclusive Majorca hotel prices in hotels to the north around Alcudia and Alcudia Bay are excellent value, or in the traditional long-standing resorts of Magaluf, Cala Millor and new emerging resorts such as Cales de Mallorca. Prices are affected by the seasons obviously, so in the peak summer months rates across the board of Balearics hotels will be higher, dropping in off-peak periods. Great news for city and cultural breaks. The central Palma luxury hotel prices drop in winter!
